AI tools
Store documents and read scanned files
Updated
The Document Organiser keeps your working documents in your own workspace, separate from every other customer.
## What you can store
Text, Markdown, CSV and PDF files. PDFs with a text layer are read on our server when you upload, so you can search their contents without spending credits.
## Scanned PDFs and images
Photos of paperwork and scanned PDFs have no text layer. For those, use **AI OCR**: it sends the file to the configured AI provider and reads the text out. OCR uses credits, and you consent to the AI step for each file before it runs. You will see the cost before you confirm.
Supported image types are JPG, PNG and WebP. Uploads are limited to 10 MB per file.
## Organising
Documents can be given a name and description, grouped, and searched by their text. Version records are kept separately in **Digital Records** if you need an auditable register rather than a working file.
## Limits worth knowing
- OCR quality depends on the scan: straight, well-lit, high-contrast pages read best.
- OCR extracts text; it does not preserve layout or tables as a spreadsheet.
- A scanned file will not become searchable until you run OCR on it.
